Abstract

© 2017, ASM International.Reduced-activation ferritic-martensitic (RAFM) steels are potential candidates for structural applications in future nuclear fusion power plants. A Ta-containing Fe-based commercial thermodynamic database was employed to calculate the phase volume fractions and their chemical compositions in Eurofer-97 RAFM steel. Results of the calculations were compared to those obtained from transmission electron microscopy, atom probe tomography and dilatometric experiments performed on short-term annealed samples. Despite minor discrepancies between experimental and calculation data, our findings suggest that the employed database is effective for calculating the phase equilibrium fields for Ta-containing steels.
