Published by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Inc.Frequency domain handling qualities criteria were developed in order to predict and prevent Pilot Induced Oscillation (PIO) occurrences. However, these criteria have been developed neglecting the influence of airframe flexibility. Since aircraft are becoming more flexible, this influence has to be considered during the development of y-by-wire systems. In this paper, we address the effects of aeroelastic dynamics in aircraft handling qualities.
