On the gap between aircraft fdi methods in industry and academy: Challenges and directions

This system is subjected to the occurrence of different failures during flight. Online failure detection and identification (FDI) techniques may allow an aircraft to avoid unrecoverable post failure flight conditions and continue the mission by control laws reconfiguration. This paper focus on presenting the current FDI methods used by the aeronautical industry and by academic and research communities, discussing the gap that exists between these two domains and presenting the challenges and directions to bring them closer in order to improve flight safety.
