Selection Process and Admission

To enter PG-EAM, the candidate must be approved in the selection process, which involves document analysis and exams. For details on how to apply, please visit the Admission Process page.

Application Requirements:

• Fulfill all documentary and procedural application requirements with the Dean of Graduate Studies Office (IP), according to ICA 37-356.
• Have an undergraduate degree compatible with the intended research area.

Approval Requirements:

• Master’s (MSc):

  1. Score at least 50% on the Mathematics and English exams administered by PG-EAM.
  2. Secure an acceptance of supervision from a permanent faculty member of the program.

• Doctorate (PhD):

  1. Score at least 50% on the Mathematics exam administered by PG-EAM.
  2. Present an English proficiency certificate accepted by the IP upon admission as a regular student.
  3. Secure an acceptance of supervision from a permanent faculty member of the program.

Enrollment

After being approved in the selection process, the candidate must apply for enrollment and submit all pending documentation within the deadlines set in the academic calendar of the Dean of Graduate Studies Office to be admitted.

Special Student Modality

The Special Student modality is an institutional link for candidates seeking admission to a stricto sensu Graduate Course through a Preparation Program. This preparatory and probationary program allows the student to take a set of graduate-level courses in an isolated manner under the supervision of a credited faculty member.

• Status: For monitoring purposes, Special Students are considered non-regular students in ITA’s stricto sensu Graduate Programs.
• Duration: The maximum period for remaining in the Preparation Program is six academic terms (3 years).
• Credit Transfer: Upon successful admission to a regular course, the Special Student may request the transfer of credits for the courses completed during the Preparation Program.

Scholarship Criteria

Institutional scholarships (CAPES, CNPq) managed by PG-EAM are distributed to the approved candidates in each selection process based on a ranking list.

• Ranking: Candidates are ranked according to their score on the Mathematics exam. Priority is given to the highest scores.
• Tie-breaker: In case of a tie, priority is given to the candidate who correctly answered the question with the lowest success rate among all participants. If the tie persists, the criterion moves to the second least-answered question, and so on.
• Waiting List Validity: The scholarship waiting list is valid until the date of the next selection process. Candidates who are not awarded a scholarship and still wish to receive one must retake the Mathematics exam.

Important: Scholarships linked to research projects follow selection criteria defined by the respective project coordinator.
