3. Courses and Credits
This section centralizes the rules on the student’s curriculum, including the validation of credits from courses and publications.
Study Plan
PG-EAM does not have a set of mandatory courses. The study program is flexible and must be defined by each student in conjunction with their advisor.
- Course Selection: Courses should be chosen to support the research project.
- Validation: The study plan is approved by the area representative to ensure that the chosen courses are aligned with the focus of the dissertation or thesis.
- Course Catalog: The list of offered courses and their syllabi is available in the ITA Graduate Programs Catalog, published annually.

Counting Credits from Publications
PG-EAM awards credits for scientific articles published while the student was enrolled as a regular student. The student must be the first author, and the advisor must be a co-author.
Journal Articles
The score is based on the highest percentile of the journal in the year of publication, according to the Scopus or Journal Citation Reports (JIF) databases.

Attention: The Qualis CAPES system has been discontinued by the Engineering III area and is no longer used for credit attribution.

Conference Papers
Credits are awarded for full papers, peer-reviewed and presented at the respective event. The classification follows the CAPES criteria for the Engineering III area.

Requirement for Doctorate: To meet the minimum requirement of 3 publication credits for the Doctorate (according to ICA 37-356), only conferences of International and Supranational character will be counted.

Transferring Credits from Other Institutions
It is possible to transfer credits from graduate-level courses taken at other institutions, provided they have not been used for the completion of previous degrees.
- Requirement: The course syllabus must be compatible with the topic of the dissertation or thesis.
- Equivalence: Every 48 class hours correspond to 3 credits at PG-EAM.
- Process: The request must be made by the student to the area representative, and final approval is given by the program’s council (CPPG-EAM).
