This section covers less common but important situations, such as changing levels, changing advisors, and the processes of withdrawal and readmission to the program.

Transfer to Direct Doctorate

Master’s students with exceptional performance may request to transfer to the Direct Doctorate program, without needing to complete a dissertation.

• Process: The transfer must be approved by the program’s council (CPPG), based on the student’s academic performance, the advisor’s productivity, and the quality of the thesis proposal.
• Requirements: For the transfer, the student must present an English proficiency certificate (according to IP criteria) and meet the additional criteria defined in the program’s Internal Regulations.
• Deadlines: The maximum deadlines for completing the Direct Doctorate are counted from the student’s first enrollment date in the Master’s program.

Changing Advisors

A student may request to replace their advisor. The change depends on the approval of the new advisor (who must be a permanent faculty member of PG-EAM) and the area representative.

Withdrawal from the Program

Withdrawal is the student’s exclusion from the Graduate course. This can occur for several reasons, including:

• Request by the student.
• Insufficient academic performance.
• Failure to enroll in courses for two consecutive terms.
• Failure to meet deadlines for credit transfer, qualification, or course completion.
• Attendance below the minimum in two courses.

Readmission to the Program

A student who has been withdrawn from PG-EAM (either as a special or regular student) may, in specific cases permitted by ICA 37-356, request readmission to resume their studies. Readmission is not a new entry through the selection process.

The request is analyzed by the program’s council (CPPG-EAM) and requires compliance with strict minimum requirements:

1. Scientific Article: The candidate must have an article as the first author (co-authored with the readmission advisor) that has received a review opinion of minor review or equivalent. The journal must have a Highest Percentile of at least 50% in areas of Engineering III of CAPES. The request must be made before the final acceptance of the article.
2. Dissertation or Thesis: The work must be in an advanced stage.
3. Credits: The completion of course credits must be in an advanced stage.
4. English (PhD): The PhD candidate must present a valid English proficiency certificate.

Important:

• A candidate can only be readmitted as a regular student.
• The readmission academic term becomes the first term of the “new” course, and the deadlines restart from the beginning.
• Publications from before the readmission period will not be considered for credit counting in the new course, except for the article used for the readmission request itself.
