About the Program

The Graduate Program in Aeronautical and Mechanical Engineering (PG-EAM) at the Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica (ITA) was created with the objective of training highly qualified human resources for scientific and technological development in the aerospace area.

Part of CAPES Engineering III area and evaluated with Grade 6 (excellence rating), PG-EAM is one of the leading graduate programs in Brazil in this field, contributing to the advancement of aeronautical and mechanical engineering in Brazil and worldwide.


Mission

To train masters and doctors with solid scientific and technological foundations, capable of contributing to the development of aeronautical and mechanical engineering in Brazil and worldwide.

Research Areas

The program is organized into three research areas that reflect the pillars of aeronautical and mechanical engineering:

EAM-1: Aeronautical Design, Structures and Aerospace Systems — Aerodynamics, aeroelasticity, aeroacoustics, flight mechanics and control, advanced composites and aerospace structures.

EAM-2: Aerospace Propulsion and Energy — Combustion and propulsion of aircraft and space vehicles, gas turbines, thermal systems and energy.

EAM-3: Materials, Manufacturing and Automation — Materials science, manufacturing processes, advanced materials, mechatronics and Industry 4.0.


Faculty

The program has over 50 permanent faculty members with extensive experience in research and technological development. The faculty maintains active collaborations with researchers from renowned international institutions and with aerospace industry companies.


Infrastructure

PG-EAM has laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art technology for experimental and computational research. The infrastructure includes wind tunnels, propulsion test benches, materials and structures laboratories, and computational resources for numerical simulation.

Faculty members coordinate research projects funded by funding agencies and companies, strengthening the connection between academic training and the demands of the productive sector.


Internationalization

The program maintains international partnerships with over 60 institutions in 20 countries, including universities such as Caltech, Imperial College London, ISAE-SUPAERO, TU Berlin and KTH. These cooperations enable dual degree programs, exchanges and sandwich doctoral programs.

Internationalization is also reflected in scientific production: 34.5% of publications have international co-authorship and 87.1% of citations come from abroad. Approximately half of the courses are offered in English.


Tradition and Impact

Since its creation, PG-EAM has trained over 1,800 masters and doctors who work in aerospace companies, research centers, universities and government agencies in Brazil and abroad.

The program plays a central role in training human resources for the Brazilian aerospace sector, contributing to the development of technologies and to the consolidation of Brazil as an international reference in the field.
