Abstract

Worldwide air traffic has been increasing nationally and internationally through the last years, and recent researches indicates that the demand for new aircraft will continue to rise over next few decades. Even today, aeronautical manufacture involves a large proportion of manual labour which directly affects the production capacity of the industry. In order to meet the demand and to offer the dynamism that the industry must have to compensate for the changes that are dictated by the market, the automation of the production lines have become increasingly necessary to guarantee the competitiveness of the aircraft manufacturers companies. In this way, in the constant pursuit of business excellence focused on improving productivity and quality, large companies have sought to deploy automation solutions in their manufacturing processes, standing out those which are able to develop differentiated products and with low operational cost. On this context, this work presents the development of a Design for Automation method which intends to clarify the automation requirements of a product on the development phase in order to improve the production capacity and product quality. Thus, by the use of developed method it was observed that the direct implementation of all of the identified automation requirements it is not capable generate a feasible product within on the company's strategy context. However, within the Integrated Product Design concept, the execution the method did make the product configuration automation friendly. Finally, the use of automated solutions for product manufacturing and to business management allow better availability of information about the production once the processes can feed the intra-company net with real time data. Thus, the production tends to become more predictable and managerial actions reaches can be easier prospected what makes the company management more effective.
