Resumo

Additive manufacturing is a growing technology that allows new opportunities to build complex structures and designs due to geometric freedom, which is an interesting field for topology optimization. Lattices are a design concept that optimizes structures to obtain lightweight parts, which provides voids due to better mass distribution along the structures. Filling the voids with polymers presents a method to maintain the reduced yet obtain different properties for the parts. This work evaluates metallic parts produced by laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) process optimized with lattices of different size cells infiltrated with polypropylene. The influence of using or not compatibilizer agent were evaluated in compression tests and with an electronic microscopy that evaluated the interface between polymer and metal. Vibration tests were performed with samples infiltrated with polypropylene without compatibilizer, a conventional solid gear and a lattice infiltrated gear. The results were encouraging, higher mechanical properties were achieved for the compression tests for the infiltrated polypropylene, achieving up to 38,5% higher than non-infiltrated parts when using compatibilizer agent in most optimized structure. In the vibration tests, the main interest is in the damping of the parts, to minimize noise and vibration, and the samples infiltrated demonstrated an increased performance in that criterion, with results up to 116% higher damping than sample non-infiltrated.
